Natural events
Collapsing rodent cycles (most species monitored are rodent specialists. Rodent cycles are now more irregular than during the 1970s; aborted peak-years, strong winter declines in vole numbers etc.). The decline in prey densities affect both number of breeding pairs and reproductive output.

This study was led by Peter Lindberg & Björn Broo 1966-1978. (Lindberg is also the coordinator of the Swedish peregrine project, participating in EURAPMON). Bengt Olsson coordinated a merlin study in the area 1975-1980. The monitoring study was dormant until 2001 when Peter Hellström re-started the project. Monitoring project is not active as per 2012-2013.
